Biography

The School of Marine and Environmental Technology (SOMET) was a school within Florida Institute of Technology that was located at the Jensen Beach Campus. In 1968 the Hydrospace Technocal Institute was founded by FIT and was located on a campus in Cocoa Beach. In 1976, it moved to the newly opened Jensen Beach Campus and was renamed SOMET. In 1986, when the Jensen Beach Campus closed, SOMET was moved to the Melbourne Campus. In 1993, it was joined into the Department of Oceanography, Ocean Engineering, and Environmental Science to form the Division of Marine and Environmental Systems.
