Donald L. Kaufman was an American literary critic known for his book about Norman Mailer. Kaufmann and Skellings met when they were both doctoral students at the University of Iowa. Kaufmann taught in the Alaska Writers Workshop and was in the Alaska Flying Poets. He taught for many years at the University of South Florida. Skellings and Kaufmann were lifetime friends.
