Biography

William Meredith was an American poet serving as a Poet Laureate Consultant in Poetry to the Library of Congress and a Director and Chancellor of the Academy of American Poets. Skellings had admired Meredith’s poetry from the time he was at the University of Iowa. He met Meredith much later in life after Meredith had suffered a stroke, but they became good friends in poetry. Skellings recorded Meredith and used computer software to make the reading more fluid. They saw each other when Meredith and his partner, Richard Harteis, wintered in Florida.
